Perryville snaps streak at Pacific

Sunday, September 3, 2006

Perryville's football team made sure right away it would not suffer through another winless season on Friday, beating Pacific 21-7 on the road in the season opener for both teams.

Pacific scored off a Perryville turnover in the opening quarter to grab a 7-0 lead, but the Pirates dominated play the rest of the night.

Rushing touchdowns from quarterback Ryan Schilling and running back Kris Cottner gave the Pirates a 14-7 halftime lead.

Cottner led Perryville's offense with 158 rushing yards on 29 carries. Schilling completed seven of 12 passes for 140 yards, and rushed for 22 yards and two scores. Tyler Bauwens added 81 yards receiving on five catches.

The Pirates held Pacific to just 73 yards offense, including just six yards passing.

Pacific has lost 40 straight games on the field, but actually ended its own losing streak with a forfeit win against Fox during the 2005 season.

Perryville will host De Soto, also 1-0, on Friday.
