Some sex offenders no longer required to register

Monday, July 24, 2006

Cape Girardeau Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle mailed more than 40 letters Monday to convicted sex offenders telling them they no longer have to register with their local county.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled June 30 that it was unconstitutional under the Missouri Constitution to require sex offenders convicted prior to Jan. 1, 1995 to register in the state.

On Monday, Swingle mailed letters to more than 40 convicted sex offenders living in Cape Girardeau County who would be impacted by the ruling.
