Wednesday, July 19, 2006

An accused drug dealer waived his detention hearing Tuesday in federal court and would remain in custody. Douglas W. Guyton Jr., 25, of 2829 Themis St., waived the hearing during an appearance before U.S. Magistrate Judge Lewis M. Blanton, according to assistant federal prosecutor Keith Sorrell. Guyton was charged with possessing with intent to distribute at least five grams of cocaine base. He was arrested May 31 when officers found Guyton to have two bags of crack cocaine in Capaha Park. The defendant was originally charged in state court, but those charges were dropped in lieu of the federal charges, Sorrell said. Guyton was scheduled to be arraigned at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in federal court.
