Dangerous intersection in Jackson

To the editor:

I just saw another accident at the intersection of Highway 25/U.S. 61 and Jackson Boulevard. The ambulance was loading someone to take them to the hospital. Why did the city and state not bring the divided highway down from the top of the hill to the intersection? There have been a lot of accidents in this area as drivers try to cut across many lanes of traffic to either turn into the gas station or come out of it. I had an accident there that totaled both my car and the one I hit when the driver tried to dart out into traffic without looking.

Is the main concern of officials the tax money they can bring in from businesses down that street or the public's safety? Since the city and state did not continue the divided highway, I would say they gave in to the businesses and looked the other way on the public's safety.

It's time they fixed this problem before someone else gets hurt or even killed. Traffic can still enter the businesses from one direction and go around if motorists need to get in from the other direction. Also other roads allow access to these areas. Even if it is a longer drive, it is better that someone's death.
