Verna E. Lorenz, 83, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, May 22, 2006, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Altenburg, Mo., daughter of Rudolf G. and Marie J. Brueckner Noennig. She and Eldor Lorenz were married June 15, 1946, in Altenburg.
Verna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. She had been a baker in a Lutheran school cafeteria in St. Louis, and was a former member of the ladies aid there.
Verna was devoted to her family, and being an avid seamstress, enjoyed sewing for them.
Loving survivors include her husband of nearly 60 years; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maxine Michel of Cape Girardeau, Kristine and Steve Holmes of Centralia, Ill.; a sister, Lyoda Fritsche; and a brother, Walter Noennig, both of St. Louis; two grandchildren, Jason Michel and Leah (Armando) Gordillo, all of Cape Girardeau; and a great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Weber.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Lorenz, Oct. 4, 2005, and an infant brother.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Interment will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery at Bloomfield.
