WE WOULD like to thank the First Baptist Church in Jackson and Jean Swain for the wonderful Easter pageant. Jane did such a wonderful job preparing this pageant. Each year it seems to get better and better. We appreciate all the time the church put into this so our community can enjoy this pageant.
Years too late
I'M AMAZED at the amount of concern for the so-called historic Purple Crackle becoming a strip club. Your about 20 or 30 years too late to save it. The Crackle has been an underage drinking spot for as long as I can remember. The only thing that has remained the same is the name.
I MAKE no apologizes for supporting President Bush, and I don't need anyone to feel sorry for me. Bush didn't ask for 9-11 to happen, so he was not at all concerned with getting his space in the history book. President Bush has had serious national problems to handle like with the threat of terrorists. He is doing a great job. There has been no further attacks on our soil. Bush is loyal. I think he should cut his ties with Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld and Vice President Cheney. But I don't mind being loyal to the men I supported for two terms.
Watch out for DuPont
THESE PEOPLE who have this idea that they are going to make corn-based ethanol need to be careful. I was reading today that DuPont is setting up a division for biofuel, and nowhere did the article mention corn or ethanol. With the chemistry behind DuPont, it can do anything. Using anything from wood chips to cow manure, you never know what DuPont can do. It has been doing this for hundreds of years.
I WOULD like to comment on the underage drinking I have been hearing about on TV and reading about in the newspaper. I don't support underage drinking. However, I know 25-to-45-year-olds who cannot drink responsibly. Once a person is 18 years old, he can fight for our country and vote. But if they drink beer, they are criminals. Our system is messed up.
I DO not believe in forced military service for any group, unless the government institutes a draft and it is for everybody. I don't think Mexicans have to be in the military any more than the person next to him. Mexicans are already in the military. A good number have been in the Iraq war. They are doing their share of representing America in this war. I acknowledge their sacrifice. Military service is something you should want to do. If someone is forcing you, it is not service.
Don't blame weather
I SAW on the news where "the weather" caused a wreck. How can weather cause a wreck? The people who are driving need to be cautious and watch what they are doing instead of driving like they have no sense. It is not the weather that causes a wreck. It's the people. If people would watch what they are doing, some wrecks could be avoided.
I AM disturbed about the parking in uptown Jackson, especially west of the courthouse. I went to get a prescription, and there was one parking space. There were signs saying two-hour parking. I went back and the same cars were still there. I tried to call the mayor and couldn't get him. I called the police department and talked to a woman who said she was going to report it.
