Letter to the Editor

Millions for sports instead of health

To the editor:

In a letter of Gov. Matt Blunt, I asked him to restore Medicaid to its original funding. In his answer, Blunt said that the previous administration, which I presumed to be Democrat, had expanded the number of Medicaid recipients without identifying a stable source of revenue to pay for them.

My understanding is that the governor appropriated $50 million for a football stadium in Kansas City. If this is a fact, then what source of revenue does this project have? It must have been a "stable source." To all of you who care to answer, does Missouri need another multimillion-dollar sports stadium paid for by Missouri taxpayers? Who reaps the benefits? I don't know about you, but I would rather see that money spent on Medicaid, health care of any kind, money to families of our soldiers killed in action or anything that would benefit those who need it.

I have heard of Medicaid and Medicare fraud. Who do you think is really defrauding the taxpayers? It is not the few dishonest people who try to get money from our social programs who don't deserve it. It is the people shuffling papers. There is no bigger fraud than corporate fraud.
