Letter to the Editor

Setting the record straight

To the editor:

In response to Bob Johnson's letter:

Regrettably, I have not served in the military, but my father served honorably in World War II. I would like to thank Johnson and all veterans who served to protect this country. As far as Johnson's claims about this administration, let me present the facts.

There are never any cuts in government spending on entitlement programs. The Bush administration cut the rate of growth in Medicare.

Anyone who doesn't understand the Medicare Part D prescription drug program should get help sorting out the different coverages. I can't find it anywhere in the U.S. Constitution where it says I will be forced to pay for others' medications via taxes.

The cuts in veterans' benefits are, like Medicare, a cut in the rate of growth.

Regarding Iraq and military spending, ask Greatest Generation survivors if they agree. Or ask the former Soviet Union. Also ask the brave volunteers who are serving now if it's better to fight them over there or here.

It's not healthy to be bitter all the time. Get over it. Democrats lost in 2000 and 2004.
