Life is constantly changing

To the editor:

Life has made many changes over a 100-year period. Compared to early years, life is as different as day as night.

Many were the times I spaded the ground for vegetables. Joy was felt in seeing it produce.

I found fun in cutting our lawn with a hand mower. It sure beat riding a stationary bike or exercising on some of today's equipment.

In early days, walking often was a necessity, since cars were few. Distance played no part. A decided change is seen.

A complete turn has taken place in women's fashions. Necklines got lower and lower in both front and back with each new designer. It would not come as a surprise to me if a large designer fig leaf will someday follow. That would be the ultimate.

The price of a 5-cent package of chewing gum in early days sure beat today's smaller package for 25 cents.

How much ice cream do you think would fill a cone today for 5 cents? Those were the days not likely to return.

Remember when it was safe to leave your doors unlocked? Or when there was no fear of walking late at night with no street lights? Can you imagine how good life was at one time?

The wide use of drugs and alcohol today -- the major cause of crime, abuse and destruction -- was certainly not a part of the early days.

Life will keep moving. Accept it. Keep your fingers crossed and be happy. It works for me.
