James L. Pettigrew, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1928, at Portageville, Mo., son of U.G. and Elsie Marie James Pettigrew. He and Janet M. Reiker were married July 13, 1957, at St. Mary's Cathedral. She died Feb. 23, 1995.
Pettigrew served in the U.S. Marines during World War II and the Korea War. He was a corporal. Honors include the Korean Service Medal with one star. Pettigrew was a guard for President Truman with the United Nations service. He was employed by the Southeast Missourian as a printer. Pettigrew was a member of the DAV, American Legion, Marine Corps League and Alpha Phi Omega.
Survivors include three sons, Steve Pettigrew of Scott City, Rob Pettigrew of Metropolis, Ill., Timothy Pettigrew of Fox River Grove, Ill.; a daughter, Susan Englemann of Cape Girardeau; a brother, David A. Pettigrew of San Diego, Calif.; four sisters, Mary L. Poe, Jane M. Story, Julie L. Parsons, Sara DeWalt; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Patrick Nwokoye officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with full military honors.
