Cape Girardeau golfer wins long-drive contest

Blake Driskell, 15, of Cape Girardeau won the longest drive contest as part of the Country Youth Classic this week in Bloomington, Ill.

Driskell competed against 65 players in the 14- to 15-year-old boys division at Prairie Vista golf course. He won with a drive of 349 yards.

The longest drive contest was one of three competitions held June 23 during practice for the actual tournament, which featured more than 600 golfers up to age 22 from 15 states and five countries. Golfers also were eligible to participate in the closest to the pin and longest putt contests.

Driskell is the son of Dan and Gerry Driskell of Cape Girardeau.

Kimbeland golfers lead Kennett, Perryville events

Peggy Fee was first in flight A, Harriet Drusch was third in flight C and Dixie Jones was fourth in flight D to represent Kimbeland Country Club in an individual tournament Tuesday at Kennett, Mo.

The Kimbeland team of Fee, Barb Johnson, Betty Belote and Dixie Jones won the championship flight of a scramble Thursday at Perryville.

Rugby event features seven teams today

The Kohlfeld Scorpions Rugby Club will host the Southeast Missouri 7s Tournament today at Arena Park.

The field includes teams from Scott Air Force Base, Fort Leonard Wood, Southern Illinois University and three -- the Hornets, Royals and Ramblers -- from St. Louis.

Games begin at 10 a.m. Admission is free.
