Suzanne Martinko Blattner, 88, of Cape Girardeau, passed away Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at her home.
She was born July 12, 1917, in Granite City, Ill., daughter of Paul and Annie Dudoe Durgalla. She and Martin Martinko were married Feb. 14, 1942. He passed away in May, 1971. She and Matthew Blattner were married Oct. 25, 1973. He passed away August 19, 1988.
Blattner was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Granite City. She resided many years in Granite City, where the family owned and operated a grocery store and poultry farm. Blattner was a nurse assistant in the St. Elizabeth Hospital and worked in the voting polls during general elections. In 1991 she moved from Madison, Ill. to Cape Girardeau to live with her daughter. She became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she enjoyed quilting with her friends.
Blattner was always ready to help her family and others in times of need. She kept her faith in Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior, until the end. Surely God will give her a crown of life.
Loving survivors include a son; Martin Martinko, Jr. of Ferguson, Mo.; three daughters, Suellen Penny and husband, Gene "Bud" of Cape Girardeau, Monica Marianne Haggard of Lee High Acres, Fla., Katherine Winkle of Enfield, Conn.; eight grandchildren, Michelle Laxton and Buddy Penny of Cape Girardeau, Monica Clay, Michelyn Hoard and Joe Haggard, all of Florida, Christian Haygen, Darlene Scorkowski and J.D. Winkle of Enfield, Conn; 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13 at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and Monday, Nov. 14 after 9 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service is at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14 at the church, with Rev. Douglas Breite officiating.
Committal service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15 at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Saxony Lutheran High School, Lutheran World Relief or Gideon International.
