Harley riders raise $10,000

Monday, June 23, 2003

The SEMO Harley Owners Group raised $10,336 for the Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston, Mo., on June 1.

"I can't believe over $10,000 was raised in one day," said Michelle Fayette, executive director of the children's center. "That is awesome."

"It took about that long to plan it, too," said Bill Gibbs co-chairman of the poker run.

The starting point for the event's 342 bikers was Minor's Harley Davidson in Cape Girardeau; the final destination was Sikeston's Ramada Inn. At 4 p.m., prizes were distributed to the first, second, third and worst poker hands. Requirements included a $15 registration fee and participants getting their cards stamped at five of the seven sponsoring clubs: Schindler's Tavern, New Hamburg, Mo.; The Corner Bar, Benton, Mo.; The Cactus Cantina, Sikeston; Dave R's, Marble Hill, Mo.; Sidetracks, Jackson; Berghoffs Tavern, Delta, and Boondocks, Morle, Mo.

Gibbs and Dennis Savat, poker run committee chairmen at Minor's Harley Davidson of Cape Girardeau, are already making plans for next year's poker run.
