Homecoming 2005

Southeast Missouri State University has at least two extra reasons to celebrate during its Homecoming festivities this weekend.

Academic Hall is 100 years old this year. The university is offering rare tours of the dome in Academic this weekend.

And the university is finishing construction of a new main entry to the campus at the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Ave. Crews have been working feverishly to put the final touches on the project. Passers-by saw water in the new fountains for the first time Thursday.

Besides the alumni breakfast and the Homecoming parade this morning, the university has scheduled a post-parade concert by some of the marching bands in Academic Auditorium and a picnic and pep rally on Academic's east terraces.

Southeast Missouri State University's Redhawks football team has had difficulty winning this year, but last week fought hard before losing in the final seconds. The team will battle the Murray State University Racers at 1 p.m. before a big Homecoming crowd.

Campus organizations have colorfully painted many of the storefronts along Broadway in preparation for today's parade to reflect the weekend's theme: Same places, new faces.

Here we go.
