Letter to the Editor

Those were the days at Southeast

To the editor:

People often like to reminisce. I am one of those.

With an increase in enrollment at the university, the front page of the paper showed many students either entering their freshman year or returning to continue in their studies. The amount of luggage among each gave the appearance of a permanent move.

Generous aid was offered by the university in moving as well as assembling. The large variety of food served each student was much appreciated and enjoyed. SEMO was in full swing and glowed again.

Time, however, does change things that can show in a number of ways.

Enrollment of students in my college years at Southeast was indeed far less. Luggage consisted of a few suitcases that required no assistance. No televisions or computers were part of the move. Small radios sometimes were.

I have always been an avid sports fan. With the football season upon us, I look forward to the Super Bowl as many others do.

Noticeable today is the change in behavior of those in the field of sports. Football players are found to rely heavily on drugs to increase their strength and boost their morale in winning. In former years without drugs, health was better and games were played with less turnovers.

Memories of college years that were free of drugs, violence, drinking and crime are both beautiful and nostalgic.

Try and beat that today. I bet you can't.
