JAKES Day teaches valuable lessons

To the editor:

Thank you to the Bollinger County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation for the JAKES (Juniors Acquiring Knowledge, Ethics and Sportsmanship) Conservation Day held Oct. 8. This was a free event held for youths under the age of 17 at the farm of Jim Jensen. It allowed the kids to experience and participate in skeet shooting, orienteering, archery, fishing and black powder shooting. The kids learned many valuable lessons and skills such as teamwork, respect for others and landowners, gun and archery safety and navigating with the use of a compass and map. Our children who attended will be talking about this day for some time to come and have memories that will last a lifetime. The men of the NWTF along with the Missouri Conservation Department did a wonderful job and should be commended for their efforts. We are already looking forward to next year.
