Letter to the Editor

Couple finds, returns billfold

To the editor;

This letter is written in sincerest gratitude to two wonderful, honest people who recently went out of their ways to help me, a stranger. I mistakenly left my billfold on the hood of a friend's van in Jackson. I did not miss it until I was back in Cape Girardeau. Fearing the worst, I called the establishment where I had been and was told there was no sign of it. I told my friends I would need to cut short my day of home-touring and get home so I could begin the task of calling my bank, credit-card companies and so forth.

When I arrived home, my friend suggested listening to the answering machine just in case someone had found the billfold. They had. They even offered to bring it to me. Instead, I went to them. The billfold had fallen off the van at a busy intersection. They pulled over, got out and collected the billfold along with everything that had fallen out and scattered. They took their time to look for my belongings. They went to their destination and later came back by the intersection to look again. They found more of my cash.

By the time I got my billfold back, there was nothing missing -- not one red cent. They refused a reward, but I want them to know what trouble they saved me from.

Thank you, Danny and Sherry Sissom of Cape Girardeau.
