Nichols pitches no-hitter in Central win
Freshman Amanda Nichols pitched a no-hitter to lead the Central girls softball team in a 2-0 victory against Sikeston on Tuesday night.
Nichols struck out 15 batters and walked two while her defense played errorlessly behind her.
Central scratched out a run in the first when Jami Dement reached on a walk, got to second on a passed ball, stole third and an error on the play allowed her to score.
Sirena Watkins drove in Paige Rothenberger with the other run in the fourth.
Watkins finished 2-for-3, accounting for half of Central's hits against Molly Brinkmeyer. Courtney Schuessler had one and Dement, who stole two bases on the day, had the other.

Kristain Burger tied her own school record with her fourth home run of the season in the first inning of a road victory, as the Bulldogs posted their 20th victory.
Burger's blast came with one out in the first inning and staked the Bulldogs (20-2) to a 2-0 lead. That's all the run support winning pitcher Miranda Schlosser needed. She blanked Goreville on five hits while striking out two and walking one.
Notre Dame had 14 hits. Erika Reinagel went 3-for-4, while Bailey Reutzel, Cortney Ostendorf and Heather Menz had two hits apiece.

Playing its first game in a week, Chaffee unloaded on Delta with eight runs in the second inning and six more in the third.
Sarah Dooley led the Red Devils with three hits, including two doubles. Kegan Orr added two hits and two RBIs, Rachel Hendrix had two hits and an RBI, Courtney Walter had two hits and three RBIs, Veronica Bennett drove in three runs and Mindy Hendrix had two RBIs.
Whitney Horrell picked up the win to improve to 3-1, while Chaffee evened its record at 5-5.
For Delta, Kaci Menz had two hits and losing pitcher Kayla Seabaugh had two hits and two RBIs.

Kristen Ploetze pitched a two-hitter and had two hits -- including a home run -- to lead the Mules past visiting Kelly.
Freshman Casey Kern suffered the loss for the Hawks (13-7).

The Tigers won at home after dropping the first game to New Madrid County Central.
Ashton Gerlach had 22 digs for the Tigers (4-10-1). Kristin Shirrell added seven assists and Melissa Espinoza had five kills.

Perryville lost at home to Hillsboro and fell to 8-8-4.
Jocelyn Moll had five kills and four digs for Perryville, while Sarah Roth added four digs and three kills and Meghan Roth had five digs.

Scott City improved to 8-4-1 with a victory at Oran.
Sophomores Whitney Tapley and Amanda Braun each had four kills for the Rams. Lindsey Amick had seven assists and Kacie Ritter added three kills and four assists.
Valerie Gibbons served up 10 points in the first game and Kelley Hicks duplicated the feat in the second game.
JV -- Scott City (11-4-2) won 25-5, 25-15.
Woodland rallied from six points down twice in the third game to emerge with a home win against Fredericktown.
Chelsea McCormick led Woodland (7-6) with seven kills and five digs. Sasha Hutson had three kills and seven digs, and Lotte Cook had two kills and eight digs. Rheanna Greer dished out 39 assists and Kyla Choate had 25.
JV -- Woodland won 25-17, 25-8.
Zalma swept visiting Saxony Lutheran.
For the Crusaders (0-10), Nicole Petzoldt had four blocks and six digs, Meredith Hoffman had a kill and four digs and Kara Verseman had a kill and two blocks.

Jack Wedemeier scored in the final 10 minutes of the game off Andrew Buelow's free kick to give the Bulldogs (8-2-1) a road victory.
Nathan Kolda recorded the shutout for Notre Dame.

GIRLS TENNIS Central 8, Sikeston 1
The Tigers remained unbeaten through nine dual meets with a victory at home.
Central's lone loss came at No. 1 singles, where Dani Gross was beaten by unbeaten sophomore Jenny DeWitt, who ran her record to 9-0 with an 8-5 victory.
