Letter to the Editor

Missouri needs to be prepared

To the editor:

As I sit here writing this letter, it brings back all of my old military-leave days and visiting my Aunt Mary Glasper and my cousins down in New Orleans. I remember standing at the corner of Canal and Royal near Ray Master Jr.'s French Quarter McDonald's enjoying my Big Mac and watching the streetcars go by. Today, my heart fills me with the spirit of sadness and anger because I have it so good here in Cape Girardeau. But I am thankful that my family is safe and well, and I pray that New Orleans and the other areas struck by Hurricane Katrina recover stronger than before. But are we Missourians prepared for such a disaster? We must begin implementations now to prepare ourselves and not be dependent on the federal government to keep us waiting.
