Local filmmakers feel slighted

To the editor:

Word has it that some people in positions of influence have been working hard to blackball and minimize our local film organization, the Cape Filmmakers Cooperative. We have been told that the CFC will not be allowed to participate with the production of "Killshot" when it shoots in Cape Girardeau, when just days before we were but one of two entities that were going to be suggested to the production crew.

We have been told that the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, certain individuals at Southeast Missouri State University and others have tried to influence the city to keep our organization's members off the production.

What's going on? What is happening is local politics at its worst. At the heart of this is the plan for some of our local artists to form a new Cape Artist's Council to compete with the current one. And they are trying to crush our group and our dreams in the process of securing their own power and influence. They are scratching each other's backs while local filmmakers suffer. For shame.
