Wal-Mart wrong to sue family

To the editor:

Concerning the family being sued by Wal-Mart: I have been a registered nurse for 30 years and have never heard of such an atrocity.

I worked as a nurse at the Monticello House, where Debbie Shank is a resident. As stated in the article, Debbie was severely injured in a terrible accident when her van was hit by a semi-trailer truck. As I viewed the picture of the demolished van, I was amazed she lived through it. Debbie is permanently confined to her wheelchair. She is unable to hug her boys or her husband.

Now Wal-Mart wants to take the only money the family has to take care of her because they are "entitled" to get their money back?

Are Debbie and her family going to get her life back because they are "entitled" to it? Unfortunately, they are not.

If you look any given day at all the cars in the parking lot at any Wal-Mart store, how long do you think it takes for Wal-Mart to make $417,000, the amount the Shank family received from the lawsuit? I would estimate it would only take a few minutes. And now Wal-Mart wants its money back.

Wal-Mart, think about what you are doing to this family. Debbie and her family will live the consequences of the accident the rest of their lives. Wal-Mart will not.

Shame on you, Wal-Mart, and shame on the Wal-Mart lawyers. This is wrong.
