Perry team gets first-class treatment

To the editor:

On Aug. 20 our 12-and-under fast-pitch girls' softball team was invited to play in the Cary Flanigan Memorial Tournament at the Shawnee Sports Complex in Cape Girardeau. If you can judge a man by his friends, Mr. Flanigan must have been an outstanding person. The way people came out to support this event was touching. You could tell that Mr. Flanigan had many loving family members and friends.

The coaches and players of the Perry County Stars would like to send a huge thank you to Terry Schnurbusch and the SEMO Fast Pitch Association for putting on a wonderful tournament. This is a class-act organization. Not only did it pay our entry fee, it also provided meal tickets to be used at the concession stand for all the players and coaches. It presented our team with a participation plaque and gave each player a T-shirt.

Our team was formed in July, which is basically the end of the season for most of the teams we played against, and we had only played in two other games prior to this tournament. It meant a lot to our coaches and players that we were asked to participate. We wish the SEMO Fast Pitch Association much luck in the coming years.
