Capaha Pool to remain closed for rest of year

Cape Girardeau's Capaha Pool will remain closed for the rest of this swim season because of a broken circulating pump.

The 47-year-old pool has been shut down since July 18. City officials had hoped to get the pump repaired or replaced in time to reopen for the remainder of the summer swimming season.

But parks and recreation director Dan Muser said Wednesday that the delivery of repair parts or a new pump would take 10 weeks. That would mean it would be October before the pool could be up and running again, well past the Labor Day closing date.

Since there is no rush now, Muser said city staff also will consider whether to replace the aging motor for the pump.

Muser believes the pool can be reopened next May.
