Jackson authorities contend with flash flooding Tuesday

Flash flooding pushed Hubble Creek out of its banks in Jackson Tuesday evening, stranding several motorists and closing several streets, Capt. Bob Bonney of the Jackson Police Department said.
A couple of cars were caught in water on Main Street, he said, and three others were trapped in the flooding on U.S. 61.
Most of the motorists got back to dry land on their own, he said, but in one case an officer "went in and helped a lady get out" of high water on Hope Street between Adams and Jefferson streets.
The storm, which hit shortly before 8 p.m., moved out quickly. All roads in Jackson were reopened by 10 p.m., Bonney said.
