PUXICO, Mo. -- Hubert Gilliland, 79, of Puxico passed away July 9, 2005, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born April 16, 1926, in Gipsy, Mo., son of the late Jasper Newton and Flora Jane Stilts Gilliland. He and Jean Shrum were united in marriage Nov. 23, 1951.
Gilliland was a 1945 graduate of Zalma High School. He attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was a retired construction engineer for Missouri State Highway Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in the Pacific in Saipan. He attended Brown General Baptist Church in Puxico.
Gilliland was active in Boy Scouts for 18 years; all three of his sons were Eagle Scouts, of which he was very proud.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Brad and Gerry-Lyn Gilliland of Lee's Summit, Mo., David and Syd Gilliland of Leawood, Kan., and Benjamin and Connie Gilliland of Jackson; a brother, Lamar Gilliland of Fredericktown, Mo.; two sisters, Mary James of Farmington, Mo., and Diane Gibbons of Paducah, Ky.; and five grandchildren: Jonathan, Thomas, Sarah, Erica and Leslie.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie.
Friends may call from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance, Mo.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bob Porter officiating. Burial will be at Berrong Cemetery in Gypsy, Mo.
