Raymond Dale Hutson, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, July 8, 2005, at the Lutheran Home.
He was born Dec. 5, 1916, at Millersville, son of Willie and Maggie Welker Hutson. He and Alpha "Pete" Surlet Plumb were married July 14, 1951, in Piggott, Ark.
Mr. Hutson worked on the river more than 20 years as an engineer with John I. Hay Co. and Macklin Barge Line of St. Louis. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 and Eagles Aerie 3775.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 2, 1945, to Jan. 5, 1947. He received the Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.
Survivors include his wife, Alpha "Pete" Plumb Hutson of Cape Girardeau; four granddaughters, Sheila Glosson of Nashville, Tenn., Laura Walz of Cape Girardeau, Holly Dowton of Fairfield, Calif., Julie Stausing of Scott City; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Hutson; mother, Maggie Welker Hutson; two stepsons, Burnett Plumb Jr. and George Plumb; a brother, and a sister.
There is no visitation.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Janet Hopkins officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park, with graveside military rites by VFW Post 3838.
