Hazel L. Hitt, 89, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 25, 1916 in Jackson, the daughter of Charles C. and Minnie Stoffregen Lowes. She and Harold L. Hitt were married April 16, 1933 in Blytheville, Ark. He passed away July 14, 1990.
She was a homemaker and worked at the former A & P Grocery Stores in Jackson and Cape Girardeau. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
Loving survivors include three sons, Harold L. Hitt and wife Rita of Tupelo, Miss., Jerry Hitt and wife Karen of Millersville, and David Hitt of Jackson; a daughter, Brenda Rhodes and husband Mark of Fenton, Mo.; 11 grandchildren, Deborah Thurman, Bobbie Reagan, Kelly and Lindsy Hitt, all of Jackson, Beckie Maintz of Oak Ridge, Kandi Smith of Burfordville, Mo., Amanda and Stephanie Rhodes of Fenton, Mo., Terry Hitt of Boca Raton, Fla., Kevin Hitt of Tupelo, Miss., and Lance Corporal Michael Hitt of Camp Lejeune, N.C.; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Erna Meyer Brown, Ardena Kasten, Lana Fassold, Elsie Grebing and Thelma Strack; and a great-grandson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
