Incomplete data supports those who oppose cuts
Sunday, June 1, 2003
To the editor:
I am disappointed in the presentation of data accompanying your May 29 story about the tax cut signed by President Bush. It showed the tax cuts for a range of taxpayers from low middle income to high income. With out presenting the total tax paid by each taxpayer, the reader has no way to put the numbers in perspective. By passing on incomplete information from a wire service, you support the administration's detractors who say the tax break benefits the wealthy more than middle-income citizens. It does, but the wealthy pay a disproportionately larger amount of the government's costs.
