New ride at Six Flags still closed

EUREKA, Mo. -- A new ride at Six Flags St. Louis remained closed Wednesday, two days after a glitch forced operators to shut it down.

No one was injured, but passengers on the Xcalibur were stuck for about six minutes until workers could manually lower the arm of the ride. Officials said it was expected to reopen by today.

Operators stopped the ride Monday because it was not spinning correctly. A minor repair corrected the spin. But a cable carrying audio to one of the gondolas was still in need of repair. The audio allows riders to hear a safety announcement before the ride begins.

Gotway said rides are inspected daily by employees before the park opens and also undergo periodic inspections by the park's insurance company, county, state and corporate officials.
