Letter to the Editor

Drury won't stop till River Campus gets another vote

To the editor:

In response to Rhonda Roth's letter: When the newspaper titled the article in question "River Campus opponent Jim Drury complains to the city" and quoted the now-infamous double negative, "I never get a nickel's worth of credit for nothing," I saw two issues. First, it sounds as though Drury is a whiner and complainer. Second, he can't talk good.

Well, golly gee. His dad had a seventh-grade education, but four sons developed more than 100 hotels and 40-plus restaurants across the United States. Their success was achieved with self-discipline, long hours, supporting families and God's blessing. I might add that all of this was accomplished without a college education.

As to the comment, "Can anyone imagine what he might make if he would build a motel near the bridge?" You just don't get it, do you? His purpose is not to make more money. It is to channel the tax money for the benefit of the people of Cape Girardeau, not for the university's disposal.

Drury will never let this issue die unless the people of Cape Girardeau are granted the right to vote for or against the River Campus. Since when does democracy make him a bad guy? Put the River Campus issue to a vote.

As to his frequent assassination of the English language: Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.
