J. Frank Hodges, 76, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born July 8, 1926, at Lesterville, Mo., son of John W. and Leda G. Guilliams Hodges. He and Frances Hunze were married Oct. 18, 1946, in Cape Girardeau.
Hodges was a 1944 graduate of Central High School. He worked at Karsch Shoe Store in Flat River, Mo., then started traveling for Brown Shoe Co. He lived three years in Colorado Springs, Colo., then moved back to Cape Girardeau. He worked for Brown Shoe more than 20 years.
He bought Hollenbeck Co. and operated it two years, then worked for UMCO Tackle Box Co. and traveled for them several years. He then started Hodges Sales Co. and operated it five years, retiring in 1983. He lived in Fairhope, Ala., three years before returning to Cape Girardeau.
Hodges was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Travelers Protective Association, and charter member of Elks Lodge.
A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the Aleutian Islands.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Linda Hodges of Cape Girardeau, Jay and Christie Hodges of Youngsville, La.; a daughter, Jane Young of Windsor, Calif.; four grandchildren, Laura Young of Windsor, Megan Hodges of Cape Girardeau, Hannah and Hagen Hodges of Youngsville.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Anselm Williams officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
