THEBES, Ill. -- Harold Masterson, 80, of Thebes died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Ratliff Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Feb. 8, 1923, in Miller City, Ill., son of James and Ida Kelley Masterson. He and Nellie Foster were married July 27, 1943. She died May 29, 1985.
Masterson was a welder in construction work and a member of Local 160 in Murphysboro, Ill. He played professional baseball for a short time with the St. Louis Browns.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include four daughters, Thelma Harvel of Tamms, Ill., Ida Britt of Grand Chain, Ill., Sharon English of Mustang, Okla., Jeanne Hoffman of Marble Hill, Mo.; three sons, Kenneth Masterson of Miller City, Bruce Masterson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Jesse Masterson of East Cape Girardeau, Ill.; two sisters, Luella Plunkett and Ethel Masterson of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms after 11 a.m. today.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
