The Jackson Inn, on East Highway 61 near Country Mart in Jackson, has been renovated from top to bottom. All 21 rooms of the two-story motel have been hit with new carpet and new paint. Refrigerators and coffee makers have been added to every room.
"We also took out all the old wallpaper and brushed on textured paint," said owner Ramabhai Patel, who bought the motel in August 2002. Several months later he changed the name from Days Inn to Jackson Inn.
Included in the renovation was matching the color of the picture frames, which are in every room, with the color of the furniture. The ceilings have been painted a bright white.
At one end of the motel is a room for the handicapped -- railings have been added to the tub/shower and also along a wall in the bathroom. There is an extra-large door to the bath area. At the other end of the motel is a room the features a Jacuzzi. Two large mirrors frame it in a corner of the bedroom.
Patel has been in the motel business since 1983. He managed a Days Inn in Metropolis, Ill., for five years and also a new Ramada Inn in Bollingbrook, a suburb of Chicago. He managed several other motels before purchasing the former Days Inn in Jackson.
