Insults are attack on blacks who hold top positions

To the editor:

President Bush has three top advisers who have tremendous power. They probably have greater influence on the nation and the world than anyone other than the president himself. Two are African American: Dr. Condoleezza Rice, national security adviser, and Colin Powell, secretary of state. The third is Vice President Cheney.

Many liberal-left African American leaders characterize Rice and Powell as "house slaves" because they are not in agreement with some of their political philosophy. This is a personal attack on outstanding individuals.

Recently, the teachers union in New Jersey created three Web sites to help parents with their children's education. One is in English, one is in Spanish and one is a "dumbed-down" version for African Americans. When this outrage was pointed out, the site was changed to reflect ethnic diversity.

These instances are insults to all African Americans. It is difficult for me to believe such remarks and personal attacks are indicative of this very important segment of our population.
