Letter to the Editor

Sheryl Crow's views reflect integrity, courage

To the editor:

I am writing in reply to Dr. Robert Ward's letter protesting statements made by Sheryl Crow expressing her view that we need to maintain a country that doesn't bully others for corporate profit and kill needlessly -- one worth defending.

I believe her views are very welcome here and should make us proud. A major reason she stands out and has made a lasting impact in the music industry is her intelligence, integrity and rare willingness to stand up for informed, relevant points of view. She wouldn't be receiving awards and be in a position to aid Southeast Missouri State University if the persona in her musical and public life didn't reflect her personal integrity.

Crow said the way to prevent war is not to make enemies. This is the most astute, concise and truthful analysis I've heard. Crow and like-minded folks are every bit as patriotic and concerned for safety and our right to defend the country and its principles as any right-winger.

I admire Crow's courage and the truth of her remarks. I believe they are very welcome to those who truly value America's principles and ideals and want to protect them from immoral military adventures. I only hope more voices join the chorus for true American values.
