Dave Porter retires

Dave Porter, who coached the Poplar Bluff Mules from 1978-85, is retiring as coach at Lafayette in St. Louis. Porter was 124-66 in seven years at Poplar Bluff as the Mules won two district titles.

Ben Hansbrough to Notre Dame

Ben Hansbrough is becoming Irish.
The Poplar Bluff native said today he will transfer to the University of Notre Dame next fall.
"Notre Dame has a great fit for what I’m looking for," Hansbrough said by phone. "The team, the coaches, the school — everything is just a perfect fit, it really is.

Today’s final round of the 62nd annual Michelob Ozark Invitational is set up for a thriller — at least if Mother Nature will allow it.She sure helped out Saturday with a clear sky and no wind, helping 13 golfers break par in the first round at Westwood Hills Country Club. The group features four former champions led by Rob Long, who led everybody with a 5-under 66.

Chronister finishes 199 at Boston

Poplar Bluff's Brad Chronister finished 199th overall (190th male and 159th in his division) at the Boston Marathon on Monday. His time was 2 hours, 41 minutes, 46 seconds.
Chronister was a member of the 2005 state championship basketball team and finished with 461 career points as a Mule and was also a state qualifier in cross country and ran track.
