Create a Web Presence OnlineFriday, May 2, 2008
I feel like in this "Always Connected" world that it's really important to make your presence felt online. There are several reasons why you would want to do this, but I'm not going to get in to that, I'm going to get into HOW to create a web presence. If your reading this, then likely you know what facebook or myspace is, which is a good start. There are several other services you should consider as well. Ever heard of Twitter? Well basically Twitter is Facebook without the bloat, all you get on Twitter is updates about your friends. Check out my example at http://www.twitter.com/ddillow . You can send updates to your twitter in various ways, including but not limited too the internet and by text message. You can also recieve your friends updates through text message. This is a great way to keep track of friends and family during anytime of the day. I get my friend's "tweets" at work and it brightens my day everytime. Another great service is Pownce. Pownce is basically a sharing tool, you have your network of friends like facebook, and you and your friends can send each other all kinds of great things like, a great song you have, a cool video you saw on youtube, a killer link to a website you think everyone must see. It's a brilliant tool for sharing your online lifestyle with your friends. An example can be seen at http://www.pownce.com/ddillow Ever heard of blogging? Of course you have your reading a blog. Blogging took the web by storm and is a great medium for getting news these days. A new trend in the web world is microblogging or tumblogging. Basically, you set up a blog at tumblr.com and your ready to go. It's not like blogging because all of the posts are really supposed to be short and meaningful, could be a link, could be a picture, could be a quote, whatever you want to share with the world. You can also send text and multimedia messages to your Tumblelog to make new posts. You can send a picture from your phone and have it on your tumblelog in seconds. Of course a great example can be found at http://daviddillow.tumblr.com/ This is just scraping the barrel on the amounts of ways you can make your presence felt online. If your interested in this leave a comment and maybe I'll write some more mini-articles like this one for you. Very nice sir, have you thought about making a blog about candles, you would be surprised but if you put ads on it and shared your knowledge and opinion on candles you might make some bucks off of it.
