The server is functioning again at Southeast Missouri State University, following a hard-hitting computer virus attack that left faculty offline Tuesday afternoon and this morning.
John Weber, assistant vice president of information technology, said there are "less than a dozen" computers that were affected "to the point they are not functional." He said he knows of two students computers damaged. The others are in the library or among faculty, he said.
"Getting everything back up and functional is only the first step," he warned. Weber said the department must now conduct research on how the virus works and slipped through the university's defenses.
University President Dr. Ken Dobbins said there are national firms trained to combat viruses that were unaware of the particular Trojan horse virus that struck Southeast. "We'll probably be the ones giving them the fix," he said.
