The Best Time of the Year
Posted Saturday, May 10, 2008 @ 11:39 am

Well…it’s official.  Yesterday was the final time that I will ever walk the hallways of Oran High School as a student.  As always on the last day of school, there were mixed emotions: some of the girls and a few guys bawling their eyes out in the realization that we would no longer see each other every single day as we have the previous four years, and the rest who could not have been more ready to get out.  I think I kind of fell in between the two extremes.  While I am ready to get out on my own and start college, I’ll never forget all the fun I’ve had and the memories I’ve made with my classmates.  Graduation is next Sunday, the 18th, so just mail any graduation gifts to me at homeJ.

Back to baseball….

Our district tournament begins Monday morning at Leopold where we will take on the Richland Rebels at 10:00 a.m.  As I’m sure most of you are already aware of, we’ve hit a few bumps in the road here lately, but hopefully we have it turned around and are headed in the right direction and can make a run for a district title.  If we beat Richland, we play the winner of Leopold and Scott County Central Tuesday at 2:00, with the finals Thursday at 4:00.  With our recent luck with weather, it doesn’t seem likely but maybe we can get a whole week with decent weather and are able to get in all the games without any problem.

In reference to my previous post, Dylan Dannenmueller is back at home and is doing much better.  He was released from Children’s Hospital last Friday and returned to school this week where he came for about half of every day all this week.  The doctors said he cant play baseball anymore this year but just having him back around the team is a blessing and I know he would love nothing more than for us to make a run at a state championship, but we have a long road ahead.

Also, how about Blake DeWitt???  I think it is absolutely amazing how he has been able to take an opportunity and make the very best of it.  I mean the same guy I beat in an Elk’s free throw contest 8 or 9 years go is the same guy I now see on SportsCenter every other day.  It looks as though before long he could be one of the Dodgers’ leading hitters.  It’s going to be a very tough decision for manager Joe Torre when Nomar returns from the DL.  Congratulations to Blake and his family.  It couldn’t happen to a better guy.  I think I speak for everyone in this area when I say I couldn’t be prouder of him and he could not be representing Sikeston and the state of Missouri in a better way.
