Race for Cape mayor gets early start

Retired businessman Harry Rediger got the jump on his opponents in the race for Cape Girardeau mayor with a set of 4-by-4-foot roadside signs and the placement of yard signs. But former city Councilman Matt Hopkins said his advertising effort will begin soon, with signs starting to appear next week and media and direct mail advertising to follow... 
Fire at vacant Hanover Street house deemed suspicious

A Monday night fire on Hanover Street was intentionally set, according to investigators with the Cape Girardeau police and fire departments. A joint arson task force, which includes both departments is investigating the fire, said Sgt. Jason Selzer, spokesman for the police department.

Assessment forms will be mailed to Scott County property owners starting Jan. 4. For the first time the lists will include vehicles.
