Early morning fire causes moderate damage to apartment

A fire early today moderately damaged a fourth floor apartment on West End Boulevard. Fire chief Rick Ennis of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said crews responded around 6:15 a.m. to 45 S. West End Boulevard. Ennis said that the fire occurred inside apartment No. 411, though smoke spread to other nearby apartments.

DEXTER, Mo. -- A Dexter man died just after midnight Tuesday night in a house fire, apparently of smoke inhalation. According to Dexter Fire Chief Al Banken, J.H. "Bo" Taylor, 77, was found dead on the kitchen floor of a residence at 714 W. Oak St. after the fire department received a call from a neighbor reporting that the house was on fire.
