A boy and his dog (11/27/03)
Josh Ghiz may never know how special he is. Blind to the world around him, consumed by the world within, the 9-year-old never saw the artwork that took hours to paint, but only minutes to sell on his behalf. He never read the touching letter that a classmate sent to Josh's mother, along with a $1 bill...

ST. LOUIS -- Missouri's top law enforcer on Tuesday backed a measure that would broaden the state's open meetings law to cover electronic records or gatherings involving public bodies, calling the upgrade long overdue in the age of cyberspace. The Sunshine Law revision also would bar secret votes via telephone or computer, closing "cybernooks" where members of city councils or school boards could huddle "behind the privacy of their home computer screens" or in Internet chat rooms, Attorney General Jay Nixon said.. ...

Contract workers for CIA pursue terrorists (11/27/03)
The recent deaths of two paramilitary operatives tracking terrorists in Afghanistan opened a small window into one of the CIA's secret methods in fighting the war on terror: using guns-for-hire. The agency has turned more frequently to contractors -- often retired Green Berets or Navy SEALs -- as it has worked to rapidly expand its covert paramilitary force, boosted by a big increase in funding in the two years since the Sept. 11 , 2001, attacks...
Medicare discount cards ready by April (11/27/03)
WASHINGTON -- Discount cards that older Americans can purchase to save modest amounts on prescription drugs will be the first tangible result that people will see, perhaps as early as April 1, from the Medicare bill Congress approved this week. The Bush administration says the cards can reduce out-of-pocket drug expenses by 15 percent to 25 percent because sponsors will use enrollees' purchasing power to negotiate discounts with drug makers and pharmacies...
Consumers - Stuffing turkey not just for Thanksgiving anymore (11/27/03)
Americans are stuffing themselves with turkey, and not just at the Thanksgiving table. The typical American gobbles up nearly 14 pounds of turkey a year, more than double the consumption in 1970. Warner backs up the starter (11/27/03)
ST. LOUIS -- It's gotten to the point where it'll take an injury for Kurt Warner to get back on the field. Still, the deposed two-time MVP is solidly behind struggling St. Louis Rams quarterback Marc Bulger. Coach Mike Martz solidified his stance on Bulger earlier this week and he'll get no arguments from his high-priced backup because the Rams (8-3) have won three of the four games in which Bulger has faltered...

Quarterback Chad Jenkins hobbled onto the field with a torn knee ligament and took Army to victory over Navy two years ago. In football, that's what passes for courage and leadership.
