Primarily, the name has been changed to reflect a broader subject area. Family and Consumer Sciences reflects more of a focus on career options and industry trends in addition to home-related skills, said Central High School teacher Pat Johnson. The change also encourages more participation from a spectrum of students...

THE STORY SO FAR: Delia has started school and made another friend, a girl named Katie Marlborough. After returning from lunch at home on the first day, Delia and Aunt Hetty are pleased to see that Ben, Delia's other new friend, has decided to come back. When Delia walks home at the end of the day, she races past the graveyards on Howard Street, not daring to look at them...

The fascinating thing about the Internet is that it's always changing and improving. I like the fact I can go to a Web page and be surprised by the free service offered. I'm going to share several of those imaginative sites that I've stumbled across lately. To be honest, I haven't tried out most of them, so you'll have to let me know if they really deliver on their "free" promises...

These students earned a semester grade point average of between 3.0 and 4.0 for the semester. Revoking the liquor license of a South Cape Girardeau bar is a step toward making the area around the 400 block of Good Hope Street safer, Police Chief Rick Hetzel said. While Vision 2000 is out collecting ideas from residents for new street projects, the Cape Girardeau City Council gave the initial nod to three projects on the Transportation Trust Fund Program. The ordinances, which need a second and third reading before they go into effect, reaffirm the council's decision to do the projects and establish the scope of the work. All three were approved on first reading Monday night...

Republican gubernatorial candidate Jim Talent says Missouri needs to establish a uniform crime reporting system to secure more federal dollars to combat the state's methamphetamine problem.
