LETTERS: BANKER FAVORS RIGHT TO CARRY GUNS
(Letter to the Editor ~ 02/27/99)
To the editor: It has come to my attention that the Missouri Bankers Association has seen fit to oppose the right to bear arms, or Proposition B, as set up in the referendum for public vote on April 6. I wish to state my position as a two-term chairman of the MBA Legislative Committee and a bank president who has had six armed robberies...

High school juniors and seniors from area high schools are helping teach seventh and eighth-grade students to say no to sex. SPEAKOUT
(Speak Out ~ 02/27/99)
I WAS very surprised that anyone would say publicly what one person said about the Republicans in your Opinion section. I believe it's called lack of judgment. However, the unapproved name is ignorance. I want to say to the Democrats: You have set the standard by approving the actions and conduct of Clinton that will go down in history which will destroy our great U.S. ...

SCHOOL REDISTRICTING NEEDS OPEN AIRING
(Editorial ~ 02/27/99)
Recommendations to the Cape Girardeau Board of Education on boundaries of attendance areas for the five elementary schools that will be open in the district this fall have raised a lot of questions and generated considerable concern among parents. LETTERS: PROP B OPPONENT HAD WRONG INFO
(Letter to the Editor ~ 02/27/99)
To the editor: I am writing in response to the letter from Jerry D. Wolsey opposing Proposition B, which is to be voted on April 6. The information given in his letter is incorrect. Mr. Wolsey assumes that otherwise law-abiding citizens who have gone through a background check and 12 hours of training and are not felons or mentally incompetent will pose a danger to those around them simply by exercising their constitutional right to bear arms for self-defense...

(Local News ~ 02/27/99)
It's time for Sister Mary Ann Fischer to go. Fischer, who has served 11 years as principal at Notre Dame Regional High School, said the time is right for her to leave the high school she helped bring into its prime. The time is right to bring in a new visionary to work towards a new set of goals, Fischer said. PRIVACY RIGHTS: BANKS HOPE TO BLOCK CUSTOMER MONITORING RULES
(Local News ~ 02/27/99)
Banking industry officials in Cape Girardeau and the entire state are opposing federal regulations which they say would compromise the financial privacy of millions of Americans. BUCKING THE SYSTEM
(Column ~ 02/27/99)
If it's called settling down, why does it require so much energy? Ever since I finally admitted that I actually live in Cape Girardeau and am not just passing through, my life has been a series of major events. Just as everything was again becoming calm, two big events this month have let me know that the phrase "settling down" is very misleading...
