LETTERS: THAT WHICH COMES FROM THE HEART
(Letter to the Editor ~ 09/24/97)
To the editor: I have always loved going to the zoo. My favorite attraction is observing the apes behind glass cages. I always denote a sense of sadness and guilt within my soul due to the expression on the apes' faces. When they look at me, I begin to discern certain emotions which they seem to be harboring that indicate a need for seclusion from the environment in which they are being exposed. ...

RUST COMMENTARY: NNA CONVENTION SHOWCASES MISSOURI
(Column ~ 09/24/97)
I attended the National Newspaper Association annual convention in Fort Worth last weekend. A less-than-seven-day-advance-purchase of a round-trip flight from St. Louis was $950, and $850 from Memphis. So I flew myself to Little Rock (1 hour, 15 minutes) where I elected to land and fly commercial for $159 to the Dallas-Fort Worth airport (which doesn't relish small, general-aviation airplanes)...

(Column ~ 09/24/97)
If Heidi has $5 and her husband has $3, how many packs of generic toaster pastries can they buy? When did grocery shopping become such a nightmare? Everything about it is complicated. Finding a parking space. Getting a cart without that one catty wampus wheel. Shoving past people who take 15 minutes to decide whether they want self-rising or normal flour...
