Conventions are a welcome sight in Cape Girardeau. Visitors bring an economic impact to the city, and they afford Cape Girardeans a chance to roll out the welcome mat. The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge and related groups held state conventions in Cape Girardeau this week. The Masonic organizations brought more than 1,000 members to town before the weeklong events concluded...

Two years ago, the majority of Twin Lakes' 90 property owners requested that the Cape Girardeau city limits be extended to include their subdivision just south of Hopper Road and west of Interstate 55. City voters overwhelmingly approved the annexation, as did Twin Lakes residents...

Restricted use and boil water orders issued Friday by the city of Cape Girardeau had residents rushing to supermarkets for Evian and sodas. Schnucks, Shop-n-Save and Food Giant all reported a run on distilled water and soft drinks. Much of the stock went to restaurants, which were unable to serve sodas from dispensers, iced tea or coffee...

Another scorcher Friday sent the mercury up to 97 degrees in Cape Girardeau. It's hot, but it could be hotter. In 1952, the temperature reached 107 on July 28, the city's all-time high temperature. On today's date in 1980, temperatures reached 105 degrees, the record high for July 15. ...

He was born March 13, 1912, in Perry County to John and Martha Hopfer Vogel. On April 29, 1945, he married Olida Katt. Vogel was a farmer. A Cape Girardeau patrolman was involved in a traffic accident Friday evening at Themis and Louisiana streets. No one was injured in the accident that happened at 5:50 p.m. Patrolman Trevor Dean Pulley was driving on Themis Street and collided with a car driven by Brian B. Young of Cape Girardeau. A Cape Girardeau man was killed and a passenger in his car seriously injured in a traffic accident at the intersection of Route Y and W in Cape Girardeau County.
