To the editor: I feel that the I-66 corridor would be one of the biggest economic boosts this area ever experienced. I have a problem with the fact that the Southeast Missourian cannot support this project. I may not see this highway in my lifetime, but I certainly give thanks to the people who brought I-55 through our area. ...

There has barely been time to take a breather since 68 percent of Missouri's voters rejected Amendment 7, the so-called Hancock II proposal. This complicated measure frightened voters. Move over Southeast Missourians, the armadillos are headed your way. They are not a threat to your life, as are killer bees, and you don't need to dress in armor to protect yourself from the small beasts. I grew up in northern Mississippi when no armadillos graced the landscape. In fact, my outdated 1980 World Book Encyclopedia states that "armadillos are found from Argentina as far north as Texas and Louisiana."...

I strolled alongside the creek bank last week, looking for signs of homeless, old Troll. Now with Thanksgiving coming on, I think of all my creatures, real and otherwise, and wonder if they've shored up their winter homes and have plenty to eat. I haven't seen whisker nor footprint of old Troll since his bridge was torn down. ...
