The Board of Regents at Southeast Missouri State University approved a number of personnel appointments Thursday. Dalton Curtis was named acting dean of Graduate Studies and Extended Learning. He will assume the duties of Dean Sheila Caskey, who is currently interim provost. Curtis, a professor in the department of education administration and counseling, will serve as acting dean until a new provost is selected...

JACKSON -- City officials say they're pleased with public response to the voluntary recycling program that began this spring in Jackson. But, they said, it probably will not be long before the program will become mandatory because of federal and state landfill requirements...

While some of the recent improvements already completed or under way at Trail of Tears State Park can be easily seen by park visitors, others cannot. But officials said all will benefit those who use the 3,265-acre park along the Mississippi River in east Cape Girardeau County...

Cape Girardeau residents are enduring firsthand through changes in the city's solid waste program the effects of increased state and federal mandates imposed on local governments. Many citizens have voiced frustration over a cut in trash service, from two collections per week to a single pickup in lieu of a weekly curbside recycling collection, despite a $1.64 hike in monthly trash fees. They've directed, perhaps unfairly, their complaints at the city administration...
