In a flurry of activity commencement parties, late hours, feverish study, bag packing and car loading the class of 1992 at Southeast Missouri State University is making its way into the world. With the culmination of finals today, many of those 619 men and women who collected undergraduate degrees for the spring semester (along with 55 getting graduate degrees) will be leaving Cape Girardeau. We bid them good luck and hope they remember their stay here fondly...

John V. Crampton of Cape Girardeau was elected as the Most Illustrious Grand Master at the York Rite Grand Council of Cryptic Masons annual session for the state of Missouri. He is grand master of the 8,600-member state organization for the 1992-93 year...

Four Notre Dame High School seniors have been selected to receive Missouri Higher Education Scholarships, also known as Bright Flight scholarships. The students are Evelyn Beussink, Greg Kuntz, Matthew Sander and Christy Vandeven. A student must score in the top 3 percent of the state on the ACT and choose to attend a Missouri-supported college or university to receive the $2,000 per year scholarship...

All the fun of summer camp, from swimming and canoeing to horseback riding and nature study, will soon be offered children who because of their medical condition might not otherwise be able to enjoy traditional camping activities. SCOTT CITY -- An Alabama couple were killed Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle accident on Interstate 55 south of Scott City. The Missouri Highway Patrol reported that Annie Innabnit, 58, and her husband, Henry Innabnit, 60, both of Chunchula, Ala., were killed when the pickup she was driving left the roadway and struck a culvert and embankment...

POPLAR BLUFF - Republicans from the 8th Congressional District will gather in Poplar Bluff Saturday to pick delegates to the GOP National Convention this summer. Blair Moran, chairman of the 8th District Republican Committee, said the caucus will elect three delegates and three alternates to attend the national convention in Houston this August...

JACKSON - The Cape Girardeau County Commission will be presented an award for "excellent management of tax dollars" today by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste and the Taxpayer's Action Network. The Cape Shine Club Rodeo will come to town next weekend, and though the event is only in its second year, organizers hope it's the start of something big. About 800 people attended a free concert Sunday at Academic Auditorium presented by the U.S. Air Force Airmen of Note. City plans to remove recreational vehicles from mobile home parks were thwarted for the third time Wednesday when the Planning and Zoning Commission failed to act on proposed changes to the city's "travel trailer" law.
