Wagon building a labor of love for Dexter residentDEXTER, Mo. -- Jerry Brown has built 661 wagons, but don't bother asking him for a blueprint. Brown, 71, began building pack-drawn wagons 25 years ago. The longtime Dexter resident said he has always made them strictly from memory. "People call weekly asking how they can buy a set of plans," Brown said. "I tell them we have no drawn-out plans and they are all in my head.

Fruitland manufacturer Major Custom Cable supplies cables to Fortune 500 companiesAs a manufacturer of data and communication cables for Fortune 500 companies such as AT&T, as well as government agencies including NASA and the Department of Defense, the Fruitland-based business ships between 5,000 and 7,000 cables each day. Many of those fiber optic cables are used to provide high-speed Internet and data network access for businesses.
Passion for hunting spawns business for Frohna duo at Indian Creek Shooting SystemsAn offshoot of their tool-and-die company River Hills Tool and Die, Indian Creek Shooting Systems supplies choke tubes to Bass Pro Shops and other retailers throughout the U.S. Since January, roughly 3,000 have been shipped out of the 7,000-square-foot facility at 5950 Main St. in Frohna. The company produced 3,000 total in 2008 and expects to produce 5,000 this year. The choke tubes sell for between $71 and $79. |
